Our Computers were Stolen!
It was a tough Saturday.
I came into the office and found that all of our computers had been stolen. Worse yet, they grabbed the back up hard drive, which we had stashed in an out-of-the-way place.
The good news is, this isn’t a total loss. Our credit card processing is outsourced, and we do not record any checking account data, so there is no sensitive data that can be accessed from the computers. Our Quickbooks database and membership lists were backed up offsite.
Several key projects, like a new website about renovating Chicago’s Union Station, were with outside contractors, so we can move forward with those.
But, this is a serious set back. We lost our contact database that goes back more than 15 years. It will take time to rebuild our list of important civic and elected leaders throughout the region.
And, the replacement cost of the computers and software comes at the expense of our communications budget through the critical month of September.
We will get through this, with your support.
Thank you, as always, for all that you do.
