US Senate Appropriations Committee Meets Thursday July 27

July 01, 2013

The US Senate Appropriations committee will meet Thursday July 27 to decide its proposed budget for FY2014.

Will you take a moment to ask your senators to support high-speed rail and expanding Amtrak?

Yesterday, the Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development made its recommendations.  The numbers are a little better than the House's proposal, though not by much.

If the subcommittee's proposal is adopted, Amtrak would receive a modest $1.45 billion.  Enough to get by another year, but not enough to expand or modernize Amtrak's fleet.  High-speed rail would get a paltry $100 million.  That's better than the House's proposed $0, but still laughable.

Please click here to tell your senators that this isn't good enough.  High-speed rail needs at least $4 billion and Amtrak $2.6 billion.

We can get an expansion budget for Amtrak and high-speed rail, but only if we act now.

Thanks for keeping up the fight.
