Why the CAHSR Matters

Imagine a future where you can travel between LA and San Francisco in under three hours — without traffic jams, airport lines, or carbon emissions.  Designed to connect major cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles with clean, efficient rail service, this project promises to revolutionize mobility in the state. By offering a sustainable alternative to driving and flying, the high-speed rail will:

  • Boost Economic Growth: The project has already created thousands of jobs in construction, engineering, and related industries. Once operational, it will spur economic activity by improving access to jobs, education, and housing.
  • Ease Congestion: With California’s population continuing to grow, highways and airports are becoming increasingly strained. High-speed rail will alleviate congestion, saving time and reducing stress for millions of commuters.
  • Reduce Carbon Emissions: Transportation accounts for nearly 40% of California’s greenhouse gas emissions. The CA HSR will significantly cut emissions by shifting millions of trips from cars and planes to clean electric trains.

This isn’t just a train — it’s an investment in a more livable, sustainable future for California.

The Current Status

California High Speed Rail is in progress, with active construction work sites throughout the Central Valley.

Work In Progress

CAHSR is currently under construction, with significant progress made on the Central Valley segment between Bakersfield and Merced. This initial stretch will serve as a proof of concept, showcasing the speed, reliability, and benefits of high-speed rail.

Some key accomplishments:

  • Environmental Review Completed: The entire path from San Francisco to Los Angeles has undergone comprehensive environmental review, clearing a critical hurdle for the project’s advancement.
  • Caltrain Electrification Finished: The electrification of Caltrain tracks between San Francisco and San Jose is complete. This upgrade enables shared track usage for CAHSR and Caltrain, optimizing infrastructure efficiency.
  • Central Valley Core Segment Underway: Construction is actively progressing on the core segment from Merced to Bakersfield, laying the groundwork for future expansion.

These milestones prove that California is capable of delivering high-speed rail — but continued public support is essential to finish the job.

What’s Next

Every great infrastructure project faced skepticism — but those who dared to believe in the future changed history.

Transformative infrastructure projects are rarely straightforward. The Transcontinental Railroad, the Interstate Highway System, and even the Golden Gate Bridge all faced similar criticisms during their development. Today, they stand as enduring symbols of progress and ingenuity.

California has the talent, resources, and public will to make CAHSR a success. What’s needed now is strong leadership from the top and a clear commitment to seeing the project through. With the right support, this rail system can serve as a model for the nation, proving that sustainable infrastructure is both feasible and essential.

The future of California High-Speed Rail is in our hands — but only if we demand it. Sign the Petition to show your support.

Take Action

California has always led the way in bold ideas — from the Golden Gate Bridge to the tech revolution. Now it’s our turn to build the future. High-speed rail will cut emissions, connect communities, and prove that sustainable infrastructure is possible — if we have the courage to finish what we’ve started. Let’s work together to ensure this vital project fulfills its promise and creates a legacy of sustainability, innovation, and connectivity for generations to come.

Join thousands of Californians standing up for clean, efficient transportation.
