HSRA member Joe Schwieterman invites you to a DePaul University webinar exploring initiatives that have successfully restored rail service to cities using abandoned or out-of-service railroad routes.

Matt Stevens of the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District in San Rafael, CA will outline a project using an ex-Southern Pacific route in northern California for commuter service.   Schwieterman will share many other examples, ranging from California, Massachusetts, Texas, and Virginia.

Check out DePaul’s working paper here reviewing dozens of  freight and passenger restorations around the US, with maps and photo, since 2004.
