FRA Awards $1.5 Billion to Projects Along the Northeast Corridor

Last Friday the Federal Railroad Administration awarded $1.5 billion for 19 projects along the Northeast Corridor. This funding will go towards repairing and replacing NEC infrastructure that will provide faster, safer and more reliable service.

This builds on the more than $16.4 billion in federal funding that was awarded to NEC projects in 2023. Major projects that are underway along the Northeast Corridor include the Gateway Program, Susquehanna River Bridge Replacement, and the New York Penn Station Access Project.

Attending the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission’s Annual Meeting

This week, we attended the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission’s (MIPRC) annual meeting. MIPRC brings together state leaders from the region to promote, coordinate and support improvement to passenger rail service. The meeting highlighted 19 rail projects in the Midwest that are in development because of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). These are the foundation of a much better and far-reaching passenger rail network throughout the Midwest.

It’s critical that we protect and expand the grant programs created by the BIL and encourage state and local leaders to continue pursuing federal funding for better train service to their communities.
