New Acela Trains Rolling Out in Spring 2025?

The long awaited fleet of new Acela trainsets are expected to enter service this spring. The new Acela Avelia Liberty trainsets will offer significantly more passenger capacity and will operate at top speeds up to 160 mph. Alstom and Amtrak have completed qualification testing and are now seeking approval from the Federal Railroad Administration before they can begin revenue service.

This is part of a larger effort to improve the Northeast Corridor. Amtrak is upgrading its infrastructure to increase track capacity, improve ride quality and offer greater reliability.

High-Speed Rail Critics Have Some Explaining to Do

Despite the critics, polling in recent years has found continuing support for California’s high-speed rail project, as well as growing nationwide support for American high-speed rail. And despite decades-long attempts in Congress to defund Amtrak, our national passenger railroad is still running.

Enough already! Leading the way on major transportation initiatives is hard. Criticism is easy. It’s time to turn the tables. The critics of California High-Speed Rail should answer questions like these:

The Multiple Unit Philosophy – Stadler’s Approach to Modernizing Passenger Rail

When: Friday, January 10 at 12pm CT on Zoom

In an exchange between Stadler US and the High Speed Rail Alliance, Stadler’s Head of Engineering, Jens Steger, and Sales Executive Project Assistant, Margaret Wardell, will provide a presentation outlining the benefits and considerations for the multiple unit design compared to push-pull locomotives for commuter and high-speed transport. Stadler will highlight critical differences and trade-offs as part of an objective comparison between the two designs. While push-pull has been the status quo in North America for some time, Stadler US is eager to start and support conversations about leveraging more efficient, effective, and cost-conscious models for operations, effectively enriching communities and the greater transit world.
