Fixing New York’s Penn Station

Earlier this year Amtrak was put in charge of the Penn Station Reconstruction project. Former New York City Transit president Andy Byford is overseeing the project and made his first public comments recently. Byford said he had renamed the project from “reconstruction” to “transformation,” and said his goal is to “totally transform every aspect of Penn Station… We are going to deliver you a totally transformed, state of the art, beautiful Penn Station.” He also revealed that the Federal Railroad Administration is conducting an independent review of operations at Penn Station and that there would be a competition for the best plans for redeveloping the station. He plans to announce more details soon.
