This is a milestone moment.
Last Wednesday, the California State Assembly voted to allocate $1 billion annually for high-speed rail!
The new funding makes California’s railway and transit program—already the strongest and boldest in the country—even stronger and even bolder.
Now, we need states across the country to follow its lead.
Help motivate other regions to catch up by making a donation today.
I’m often asked what lessons we can learn from California. There are many, but the single most important lesson is this: Get construction started!
Today, all but 31 miles of California’s 500-mile California line—from San Francisco to Los Angeles—are environmentally cleared. And 70 miles of guideway are in place for the first segment in the Central Valley, which will be operational by the early 2030s.
The impacts are already deep and wide. Work on the high-speed line is driving improvements across all of California’s train and transit systems.
Since launching the project, for example, California has made big investments in its conventional railways; created a truly coordinated statewide rail plan that integrates all transportation modes; built a world-class transit system in the Bay Area; and forged a path toward a sensible regulatory framework.
That’s what high-speed rail does. It transforms transportation—by taking all systems to the next level.
Now, we need other states to follow California’s example. Will you join the Alliance today and help make that a reality?
