Is Illinois High-Speed Rail on the Horizon?

The High Speed Rail Alliance’s executive director Rick Harnish was featured on WTTW’s Chicago Tonight to discuss the opportunity Illinois now has to make high-speed rail a reality.

The first step was taken when Governor Pritzker signed the IL High-Speed Rail Commission into law. The Commission is tasked with creating a statewide plan for a high-speed line and feeder network connecting Chicago to St. Louis. It will be integrated with existing Amtrak and Metra services, intercity bus service and connect the Illinois cities of Rockford, Moline, Peoria and Decatur.

We have been advocating for the creation of this commission for the past 3 years and it has arrived at an opportune time. With the infrastructure bills moving through Congress, Illinois is now well positioned to take advantage of any federal funding they provide.

Read about how this commission makes a national HSR network more likely.
