During a press conference on February 4, Donald Trump made wild criticisms of California high-speed rail. If you want this project to succeed, it’s time to speak up.
Act now: Show your support for great trains in California.
Despite what the President said, California is going to connect San Franciso and Los Angeles with high-speed trains. Construction on the 171-mile initial operating segment is well underway and they have completed the initial design and environmental work on the critical tunnels that connect those cities to the Central Valley. And, despite what he said, you cannot take a flight that costs “two dollars.”
Here’s the reality:
California has the best state rail plan in the United States. By 2050, the state is working for world-class train and transit service. High frequency and high speed will make these options more convenient, more appealing, and more affordable than driving or flying. It’s a fantastic plan, and other states should aim this high too.

Dear Governor Newsom,
Thank you for leading the way on California high-speed rail and the state’s visionary rail plan.
I want what the State Rail Plan promises: world-class train and transit service, with high frequency and high speed. That will give us more convenient and appealing options than driving or flying. If necessary, California should dedicate more of its own funds to build out this terrific, well planned system.
Please ignore critics who offer no alternative, and who seem to see nothing wrong with the status quo: the hassles of driving and flying, and never-ending spending for airport and highway expansion.
California should continue and accelerate the work we have already started for great trains and transit in our state.
