ReThinkNYC is holding a Zoom rally in support of through-running at Penn Station!
The will be joined by five transit experts and stakeholders: – Moderator: Samuel A. Turvey, Chairperson, ReThinkNYC – High Speed Rail Highlights: Professor Robert Paaswell, City College of New York, Former Head of Chicago Transit Authority – Through Running Highlights: Karim Ahmed, Senior Advisor to ReThinkNYC – Christine Berthet: Co-Lead, Community Board 4 Transit Committee – Layla Law-Gisiko: Chair, Community Board 5 Land Use Committee; President, City Club
The Railroads, Amtrak, MTA, and NJ Transit are trying to mollify those supporting through-running by saying they will consider it as part of the environmental review process in two years. They also say they think it is best addressed after 2080. Yet our peer cities, London, Paris, Madrid, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Toronto, Philadelphia and soon Los Angeles (never thought of as a leader in mass transit) have or are implemented through-running. Some have had it for decades.
Through-running is the far superior alternative and international standard. ReThinkNYC’s through-running plan is billions of dollars less expensive than current plans. Most importantly, our plan can be implemented without the need for any demolition of the Penn neighborhood.
Make your voice heard. Add public support for bringing “connectivity” in the form of through-running and high-speed rail to New York City.

Members of the public will be given three minutes to speak, heads of organizations four minutes, and transit advocacy group leaders, five minutes. Elected officials or staff representatives will each be given five minutes.

It’s a Beautiful Country

Let’s see it. Let’s clean it. Let’s build it. Let’s make high speed rail a reality.
