A coalition in Peoria, co-chaired by Mayor Rita Ali and former United States Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, is making progress towards establishing passenger rail service to Peoria.
In July they announced the results of a feasibility study for a new passenger rail corridor connecting Peoria, Lasalle-Peru, Utica, Ottawa, Morris, Joliet and Chicago. Peoria is the largest metro area in Illinois without passenger trains, and initial results of the study show there is strong demand and public support for the project.
We will be joined by Mayor Ali and former Secretary LaHood to go over the results of the feasibility study, the next steps for the project and how advocates can support this effort.
This is also a shining example for how other cities across the country can work towards establishing new or improved passenger rail to their community.
