After decades of proposals, plans for high-speed rail in Australia are moving forward. The Australian government’s High Speed Rail Authority began serious work earlier this year, focusing on the stage from Sydney to Newcastle (approximately 160 km or 100 miles). Proponents would eventually like to build north to Brisbane and south to Canberra and Melbourne.
Our speaker will be Dr. Garry Glazebrook, a transport and urban planner with over 40 years of experience in government, consulting and academia. He founded the organization Fastrack Australia to raise awareness of the potential for higher speed rail.
