Over the weekend, Ezra Klein of the New York Times published an essay that used California High Speed Rail as a prime example of the barriers to getting big projects done in the US.
Klein offers political opinions that the Alliance has no comment on.
But we fully agree that California HSR is moving way too slowly.
There are many reasons for the delays, but the solution is straightforward: The project needs an all-in commitment by the California Legislature to get it done—as quickly as possible.
CAHSR is the most important railway project in the US right now. Construction on the 171-mile initial operating segment is well underway. This first segment, and Brightline West’s new high-speed line from Las Vegas to the LA area, will create a tipping point for great trains across the country.
Which is why opponents are slowing the project down and putting up barriers. Let’s push back—and push through the barriers—by sending a message to Sacramento: Get trains running in this decade!
Residents of California can send a message directly to Sacramento.
Those outside of California can take action here.
Then, please ask friends in California to take action too by sharing this link.
Sincerely,
Rick Harnish
